Meet Henry ClayThere is plenty to see and do at Ashland and the staff works to customize programs for school groups. The 17 acre property includes an historic mansion, carriage house, smokehouse, ice houses a dairy cellar and more. The wooded grounds contain walking paths, a formal garden and playing fields. A 20 x 40 tent is available from April-October. There is ample parking for school buses at Ashland.
Groups must book their tours in advance. Large groups (20 or more people) may require special formatting and therefore should book at least two weeks in advance.
The Trees of Ashland This tour includes the formal garden and the grounds with an emphasis on identifying and learning about trees and leaves. There are 40 different varieties of trees at Ashland. This tour can be taken on its own in approximately one hour or combined with the house tour for a two hour time. This tour should be scheduled at least three weeks in advance.
Holidays at Ashland In late November through December, holiday tours are offered. Each year the house is decorated around a different theme. Tours for students can be arranged that offer an option for making a holiday craft.
Henry Clay for Young Students Children ages 4 – 6 are introduced to Henry Clay as an important Kentuckian and American through a brief tour through the mansion and on the grounds. Students will play “Where’s Henry” as they take a half hour guided tour with a school tour guide. They will also be introduced to how life was different for early Americans while touring the grounds.
Student rates are offered to groups of 10 or more students. There is no charge for the teacher or teacher assistant. A discounted admission fee for additional parent/adult chaperones is $6.00 per person.Home Schools- There is no admission charge for one adult/teacher accompanying a group of 15 or less. A discounted admission fee for additional parent/adult chaperones is $6.00 per person.
