Arrowhead

Date

Jerrye from Lexington collected this arrowhead while on a walk along the Licking River in Morehead in 1982 and has kept it as a family memento ever sinceJerrye’s family lived in Morehead, KY and enjoyed the nearby Paragon natural area in Daniel Boone National Forest.

Just like Jerrye’s family, the McDowell family of Ashland collected souvenirs of the natural world too. This piece of petrified wood belonged to Henry Clay’s granddaughter, Anne Clay McDowell’s, family. “H. McDowell” is likely either her husband Henry Clay McDowell or her son Henry Clay McDowell, Jr. What sort of memory do you think this piece of petrified wood held for the McDowell family?
