DESCRIPTION:The Challenge of Sustainability in the Cultural Sector: Insights into Museums A discussion with Professor Mara Cerquetti\, University of Macerata \nWhat does it mean for a museum to be sustainable — and what role can museums play in building a more sustainable world? \nThis panel discussion will explore the relationship between museums and sustainability from both directions: how museums can operate more sustainably\, and how they can use their unique position to advance sustainability in the communities they serve. Drawing on the latest research and data on how cultural institutions are responding to the climate crisis\, Professor Cerquetti will also unpack the newly updated international definition of museums (ICOM\, 2022) and what it signals about the sector’s evolving values. \nThis project has been supported\, in part\, by the UKinSPIRE (Seeding Partnerships for International Research Engagement) initiative\, an internal seed funding program jointly administered by the University of Kentucky International Center and Office of the Vice President for Research.

SUMMARY:Sun Boxes\, a Solar-Powered Sound Art Installation
DESCRIPTION:Back by popular demand! Sun Boxes is a Solar-Powered Sound Art Installation by artist Craig Colorusso.\nSchedule of Events \n\nOctober 2-3\nInstallation: 10am – 5pm \nOctober 4\nInstallation: 10am – 5pm\nWest Sixth Popup: 12pm – 5pm \nOctober 5\nInstallation: 10am – 12pm\nYoga at Ashland: 11am – 12pm \n\nSun Boxes is comprised of twenty speakers operating independently\, each powered by the sun via solar panels. There is a different loop set to play a guitar note in each box continuously. These guitar notes collectively make a Bb (B Flat) chord. Because the loops are different in length\, once the piece begins they continuously overlap and it slowly evolves over time. The sounds of Sun Boxes has been described as both soothing and energizing. The Sun Boxes project has toured the country since 2009\, and his pieces\, including works like Sound Swings and Wilson Circle\, have been featured in places such as the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. \nCraig Colorusso has been making permanent pieces around Northwest Arkansas and beyond with works such as Sound Swings\, Moon Pod\, Cover Bridge ONE\, El Segundo\, Wilson Circle and Path of The Bumblebee. He currently lives in Rogers\, Arkansas with a wife\, a daughter\, and four cats. \nFor more information\, check out the event website here.
