Living History at Ashland

Join us Saturday September 27th at Ashland’s Annual Living History Event as we bring Henry Clay’s legacy and the stories of Ashland to life. Explore history through powerful performances, immersive exhibits, and interactive reenactments that shed light on the lives of African Americans, Indigenous Peoples, and Women of the era.

Exhibitors include the Digital Access Project sharing African American History in Fayette County’s court and legal documents, Women’s Suffrage and Madeline McDowell Breckinridge from her great-great niece, Standardbreds descended from horses born and raised at Ashland, United States Colored Troops, Wet plate Photography and woodturning, Indigenous history and crafts, archaeology at Ashland, and two performers on our stage: Kentucky Humanities Council Chautauqua performer Elizabeth Lawson as Charlotte Dupuy, an enslaved woman who sued Henry Clay for her freedom and Ashland Operations Manager and Baritone Nathaniel Thompson singing and discussing  Spirituals.
